“The dark side of nature.”

Tornadoes are tearing across Oklahoma in numbers nobody has seen before, and Dr. Jo Harding (Helen Hunt) wants to put a sensor device inside one to build a better warning system. Her soon-to-be ex-husband Bill (Bill Paxton), a former chaser, turns up with his girlfriend Melissa (Jami Gertz). Jan de Bont sends them down open roads toward each funnel, and if the device never gets into one, the warnings stay as slow as they have always been.
