Two Acres of Land

Shambhu Maheto (Balraj Sahni) is a farmer who owns two acres of land and little else, and when a landlord's scheme puts the plot in danger, he has to find the money to buy it back. He takes his young son Kanhaiya (Rattan Kumar) to Calcutta, where Bimal Roy follows the two of them looking for any work the city will give. The film puts a plain question in front of us: what a man will do to keep the ground his family has always stood on.
