“no beginning... no end... no speed limit...”
The Driver (James Taylor) and the Mechanic (Dennis Wilson) have one purpose, which is to drag race for money in a primer-gray Chevy and keep it running. Then a hitchhiker (Laurie Bird) climbs in, and G.T.O. (Warren Oates) pulls alongside with a bet on a cross-country race. Monte Hellman sets them loose across the Southwest with a stake that is only the other man's car, and nobody on the road has any money left to lose.
