Two Lovers

“Sometimes we leave everything to find ourselves.”

Leonard Kraditor (Joaquin Phoenix) moves back in with his parents in Brighton Beach after a broken engagement leaves him low and unmoored. His mother, Ruth (Isabella Rossellini), steers him toward Sandra (Vinessa Shaw), while a new neighbor, Michelle (Gwyneth Paltrow), lives next door and catches his eye. James Gray, working loosely from Dostoyevsky's "White Nights," keeps Leonard caught between the safe choice and the one he wants.
