Above a Los Angeles football stadium, a sniper settles in to wait for the championship game, planning to kill as many people in the crowd as he can. Captain Peter Holly (Charlton Heston) and the SWAT commander, Sgt. Chris Button (John Cassavetes), learn of the plot and race to the stadium. Larry Peerce keeps the game on the field while the police move through the stands, and the sniper stays out of sight.
