“What's love got to do with it”

In a small Southern town, April Delongpre (Sherilyn Fenn) is engaged to a suitable man and kept close by her grandmother, Belle (Louise Fletcher). Then a carnival sets up outside town, and Zalman King follows her to the drifter Perry Tyson (Richard Tyson), who works there. April slips out of her polished life again and again, chasing the desire her family has never allowed her to name.
