Umberto D.
Umberto Domenico Ferrari (Carlo Battisti), an elderly pensioner in Rome, walks home from a protest for higher pensions to find his landlady demanding 15,000 lire by the end of the month. He has no way to raise it, so he fakes an illness to get into a hospital and leaves his dog Flike with Maria (Maria Pia Casilio), the landlady's pregnant maid. Vittorio De Sica cast mostly non-professional actors and shot in a plain documentary style.
