Louis Zamperini (Jack O'Connell) is a former Olympic runner who enlists in the Army Air Forces during World War II. When his plane crashes in the Pacific, he and airman Phil Phillips (Domhnall Gleeson) survive forty-seven days adrift before being captured by the Japanese Navy. In a brutal POW camp, Louie faces the sadistic corporal Mutsuhiro Watanabe (MIYAVI), and through hunger and beatings, he discovers the quiet strength that keeps him alive.
