Under the Roofs of Paris

Albert (Albert Préjean) sings for coins in a Paris slum, and the woman he cannot stop watching, a Romanian newcomer named Pola (Pola Illéry), already belongs to the local hoodlum Fred (Gaston Modot). Fred notices the attention, and a petty crime soon puts Albert behind bars while Pola grows close to his best friend, Louis (Edmond T. Gréville). René Clair makes a film about how little the poor have to hold onto, and how hard they hold it.
