“An Irresistible Force That Draws a Man and Woman Together!”

Ann Hamilton (Katharine Hepburn) is a chemist's plain, bookish daughter who marries the industrialist Alan Garroway (Robert Taylor) after a quick engagement, knowing almost nothing about his family or past. He dresses her in gowns and moves her through society, but he turns angry whenever she asks about his missing brother Michael (Robert Mitchum). Vincente Minnelli shoots the big, handsome house so that its rooms feel quieter and colder each time his name comes up.
