“ONCE UPON A TIME THERE WAS A COUNTRY”

Marko (Predrag 'Miki' Manojlović) wants a better life than a black marketeer's, and in WWII Belgrade he and his friend Blacky (Lazar Ristovski) sell weapons to the Communist resistance while living it up. Emir Kusturica follows Marko's rise through the Party, and he soon wants Blacky's girlfriend Natalija (Mirjana Joković) too. Years later a below-ground shelter, the Yugoslav Civil War and a man happy to profit from it put what each of them has left at risk.
