“Will somebody "get her" tonite?”

A private detective's report reaches August Henshler (Rudy Vallée), and it suggests his sister-in-law Daphne (Linda Darnell) has been seen with a man she shouldn't. His brother-in-law, the symphony conductor Sir Alfred de Carter (Rex Harrison), hears the news and begins to picture what he would do about it. Preston Sturges follows him through three imagined revenges while a concert plays, and Alfred is a man who cannot stop conducting his own jealousy.
