Unknown Soldier

“Finland, behold, thy daylight now is dawning.”

In the summer of 1941, a Finnish machine gun company is sent east to fight the Soviet Union in the Continuation War. Aku Louhimies follows the men through three years of it, among them the quiet Rokka (Eero Aho) and the young officer Kariluoto (Johannes Holopainen), adapting Väinö Linna's novel from its uncensored manuscript. Koskela (Jussi Vatanen) stands at the front of the company, and the film stays with the men around him.
