Margaret Reynolds (Barbra Streisand) is stuck in a Manhattan apartment with her small children, and her husband Paul (David Selby) barely looks up. So she drifts into daydreams: her mother breaking in, a party where an explorer's fertility music changes the guests, a plan to plant explosives in the Statue of Liberty. Irvin Kershner follows her through each one, and every fantasy circles the same question of what a mother is allowed to want for herself.
