Mordechaj Anielewicz (Hank Azaria) is determined to organize a fighting force inside the Warsaw ghetto in 1943, even as Adam Czerniaków (Donald Sutherland) urges patience and Tosia Altmann (Leelee Sobieski) carries messages between the resistance cells. Jon Avnet follows them toward the day SS-Brigadeführer Jürgen Stroop (Jon Voight) arrives to clear the ghetto. They have little ammunition, a few pistols, and every person left inside to answer for.
