Utu

Te Wheke (Anzac Wallace) is a Māori warrior who fought alongside the British until a betrayal turned him toward utu, the settling of a debt in blood. Geoff Murphy sets the story in the North Island in 1870, among colonial officers like Col. Elliot (Tim Elliott) and settlers like Williamson (Bruno Lawrence), whose homestead Te Wheke attacks. Every side here wants to be repaid for what it lost, and the film shows how little any of them have left to pay with.
