Valerie and Her Week of Wonders

“A journey into womanhood...”

Valerie (Jaroslava Schallerová) is a teenager living with her grandmother in Czechoslovakia, and a pair of magic earrings has changed what she sees around her. A priest named Gracián (Jan Klusák), a pale stranger who looks like a vampire, and carnival people from no ordinary town all start turning up, and Valerie can't tell which are real. Jaromil Jireš keeps her at the center of it, and the one person she keeps coming back to is her grandmother (Helena Anýžová).
