In 1983, Julie Richman (Deborah Foreman) lives in the San Fernando Valley, where her days belong to her mall-going friends and her boyfriend Tommy (Michael Bowen). Randy (Nicolas Cage), a punk from the city, crosses into the Valley and meets her. Martha Coolidge follows the two of them as they try to hold onto each other while Julie's friends, led by Loryn (E. G. Daily), keep pulling her back.
