Van Gogh

(1991)Directed by Maurice Pialat158 minDrama, History
“The last 67 days of the great artist's life.”

All Vincent van Gogh (Jacques Dutronc) wants after leaving the asylum is a place to keep painting, and in 1890 he finds one in the house of Doctor Gachet (Gérard Séty). He takes up with Gachet's daughter Marguerite (Alexandra London), though his heart is already given to his work. Maurice Pialat covers the last 67 days of his life with a loose, unhurried camera, treating the painter as a man among other people.
