Kunhikuttan (Mohanlal) is a celebrated Kathakali dancer who wants to be seen as a man and not only as the gods and heroes he plays on stage. Then he meets Subhadra (Suhasini Maniratnam), a woman from an upper-caste family, who falls in love with the character in the paint and not with him. Shaji N. Karun follows the dancer as he tries to answer a devotion that was never meant for him, and he cannot tell whose face she is looking at.
