Kowalski (Barry Newman) is a former cop and race car driver who now delivers cars for a living, and he picks up a 1970 Dodge Challenger in Colorado to drive to San Francisco. Shortly after pickup, he takes a bet that he can get it there in under 15 hours. Richard C. Sarafian sends him west with the police behind him and a blind DJ named Super Soul (Cleavon Little) talking him down the road, and the clock is all he has left to lose.
