Vatel

“Some men are too noble to live among aristocracy.”

What does it take to feed a king? Prince de Condé (Julian Glover) must win Louis XIV's favor, and he stakes everything on a three-day visit of hunts and banquets, with his cook, François Vatel (Gérard Depardieu), left to supply the feasts. Then Vatel notices Anne de Montausier (Uma Thurman), a woman at the king's court. Roland Joffé fills the château with kitchens, candles and costume, and lets the excess crowd every frame.
