“Leave your expectations at the door”

Arthur Stuart (Christian Bale), a journalist in 1984, wants to find out what became of Brian Slade (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), the glam-rock star he worshipped as a teenager and who vanished almost ten years ago. Todd Haynes tells it out of order, moving between 1970s Britain and Arthur's present. Arthur goes in as a reporter, but he is also a fan still trying to settle what Slade meant to him.
