“Wife. Mother. Criminal.”

Vera Drake (Imelda Staunton) cleans other people's houses in London in 1950, fusses over her husband Stan (Phil Davis) and their grown children, and carries a cup of tea to anyone in need. She also helps young women in trouble, calling it "helping girls out" and taking no money. Mike Leigh keeps her warm and ordinary, so that her kindness is all she has when the law arrives.
