On a French farm in 1968, the work never stops, and it all falls to Alexandre Gartempe (Philippe Noiret), an honest young farmer answering to his authoritarian wife Eliane (Françoise Brion). When she dies in a car crash, he gets into bed and decides to stay there, free and doing nothing. Yves Robert leaves him under the covers while the dog carries in his food and newspapers.
