“The end of an empire. The birth of two nations.”

In 1947, Lord Mountbatten (Hugh Bonneville) arrives in Delhi as the last Viceroy, with orders to hand India back to its people. Gurinder Chadha sets the British upstairs and the 500 Hindu, Muslim and Sikh servants downstairs, all under one roof. Among them, Jeet (Manish Dayal) and Aalia (Huma Qureshi) are drawn to each other, though they come from different faiths.
