A mysterious box arrives for Polly (Dakota Fanning), and The Woman (Kathryn Hunter) gives her one rule: put inside it an object she needs, an object she hates, and an object she loves. If she refuses, the box will consume everyone she has ever known. Bryan Bertino keeps the film close and tightly wound, and the dread builds slowly around that single instruction. The choice of what to give up shows Polly what she values most.
