A street gang attacks Vickie Marino (Rutanya Alda) and kills her young son, and the judge lets the men walk. Her husband Eddie (Robert Forster), a New York factory worker who has never needed more than his job and his home, starts looking for another kind of justice. William Lustig puts him beside Nick (Fred Williamson), a friend from a neighborhood group, and what holds the two together is anger.
