“The story of Mussolini's secret lover, Ida Dalser, and their son Albino.”

Ida Dalser (Giovanna Mezzogiorno) falls for the young, loud, hungry Benito Mussolini (Filippo Timi) and trusts him with everything she has. She is his first wife, and the secret of it, along with his refusal to acknowledge her, is what turns her life into a long struggle against being erased. Marco Bellocchio follows her from that early devotion into madness, and Mezzogiorno holds the screen with a face that keeps insisting on a marriage nobody will confirm.
