Three strangers drift through a fictional Arizona mining town in the days before Saturday, studying the bank and the people around it. Richard Fleischer, shooting on location in Bisbee, cuts between their planning and the townspeople who have no idea what is coming, among them Boyd Fairchild (Richard Egan) and the bank manager Harry Reeves (Tommy Noonan). Shelley Martin (Victor Mature) is one of them, an ordinary man whose Saturday is about to be taken over.
