Violent Summer

In July 1943, Carlo Caremoli (Jean-Louis Trintignant), the son of a prominent Fascist, spends the days on the beach at Riccione with other wealthy young people while the war creeps closer to the coast. He meets Roberta (Eleonora Rossi Drago), a naval officer's widow with a small daughter, and her mother tells her to stay away from him. Valerio Zurlini follows the two of them over a few weeks, an older woman and a younger man who keep seeing each other anyway.
