“The Story of an Extraordinary Crime.”

Violette Nozière (Isabelle Huppert) is eighteen in Paris in 1933, and she wants out of the small apartment where her parents, Germaine (Stéphane Audran) and Baptiste (Jean Carmet), still see her as a good girl. Her nights belong to dissolute young men in the rougher parts of the city, a second life she keeps hidden from them. Claude Chabrol builds the story from the real case, and what it comes down to is how little the people under one roof know each other.
