Volga - Volga

Strelka Petrova (Lyubov Orlova) runs the mail in a small Volga town and writes songs with her neighbors, a group of amateurs determined to reach the Moscow Musical Olympiad. They set out on a steamboat down the river, with a rival troupe led by the officious Byvalov (Igor Ilyinsky) sailing the same route. Grigori Aleksandrov fills the deck with singing, and the whole trip assumes that ordinary people with a tune and a boat ticket belong on the national stage.
