Waiting for Anya

Jo (Noah Schnapp), a young shepherd in southern France during the Second World War, joins the widow Horcada in smuggling Jewish children over the border into Spain. Ben Cookson adapts Michael Morpurgo's 1990 novel, putting a boy and a handful of frightened children between the mountains and German soldiers like the Korporal (Thomas Kretschmann). Under the occupation, the film says, ordinary neighbors had to decide whether they would shelter strangers or look away.
