In 1995, four friends in Phoenix keep ending up with men who cheat, lie and leave. Forest Whitaker follows Savannah (Whitney Houston) and Bernadine (Angela Bassett), along with Gloria and Robin, through the breakups and the long phone calls that come after. They sit together over wine and talk it out, all four still holding their breath.
