Waiting Women

(1952)Directed by Ingmar Bergman104 minDrama, Comedy
“The love affairs of three women - marital... premarital... and one marvelous surprise!”

Four women sit in a small, secluded cottage, each married to one of four brothers, each waiting for her husband to arrive. To pass the hours, Rakel (Anita Björk), Karin (Eva Dahlbeck) and Marta Berg (Maj-Britt Nilsson) take turns telling how their marriages began and where they stand now. Ingmar Bergman cuts from the cottage to their flashbacks, and the women keep talking, still waiting, the cottage still closed around them.
