Waterloo

(1970)Directed by Sergei Bondarchuk134 minHistory, Drama, War
“One incredible afternoon Napoleon met Wellington . . . at Waterloo.”

Napoleon Bonaparte (Rod Steiger) has been shut away on Elba and Europe thinks the wars are over. Then he escapes, and the French army that swore to the king walks back to him. Sergei Bondarchuk puts Napoleon opposite the Duke of Wellington (Christopher Plummer), a general who has beaten Napoleon's marshals in Spain and Portugal but never the man himself.
