Waxworks

(1924)Directed by Leo Birinski, Paul Leni83 minFantasy, Horror

A young poet takes a job at a waxworks in a circus, hired by the owner to invent stories for three figures on display: Harun al Raschid, Ivan the Terrible and Jack the Ripper. As he writes, he and the owner's daughter Eva become the heroes of each tale, with William Dieterle changing faces from one story to the next. Paul Leni shapes each tale with its own set design, so every figure lives in a world of its own.
