Way Down East

(1920)Directed by D.W. Griffith150 minDrama, Romance
“A simple story for plain people.”

Anna Moore (Lillian Gish), a country girl, can't understand why the wedding she believed in leaves her with no marriage at all. The man behind it is Lennox Sanderson (Lowell Sherman), a wealthy womanizer who staged the ceremony as a sham. D.W. Griffith follows her as she tries to start over where no one knows her, while the child she bore keeps the shame close behind her.
