Antonio (Nino Manfredi), Gianni (Vittorio Gassman) and Nicola (Stefano Satta Flores) fought together as partisans and come home from the war wanting to stay as close as they were. Ettore Scola follows the three men and Luciana (Stefania Sandrelli), the woman who passes between them, across the years, with Nicola still talking about the cinema.
