We Are Marshall

“From the ashes we rose.”

A chartered plane goes down in 1970 and takes 37 members of the Marshall University football team, along with coaches, trainers and boosters, leaving a small West Virginia town with 75 funerals to hold. Jack Lengyel (Matthew McConaughey) arrives as the new coach, and Red Dawson (Matthew Fox) and Nate Ruffin (Anthony Mackie) are among those still standing. McG directs it in plain, direct scenes, and he lets the loss sit in the frame.
