Nello (Claudio Bisio) is a union organizer who takes over a newly formed cooperative of former psychiatric patients, turned out of Italy's closed asylums with little money and nowhere to go. Giulio Manfredonia follows him as he tries to get them working and out into the wider world, not just medicated and kept quiet. Nello and Sara (Anita Caprioli), one of the workers, are drawn into each other's lives as the work grows.
