We the Poor

Pepe el Toro (Pedro Infante) is a carpenter in a poor Mexico City neighborhood, raising his young daughter Chachita (Evita Muñoz) on what the workshop brings in. He is courting Celia (Blanca Estela Pavón), and then a crime he did not commit gets pinned on him. Ismael Rodríguez keeps the film close to the neighbors and the cramped courtyard, and what holds under all of it is the bond between Pepe and the little girl who depends on him.
