We Won't Grow Old Together
In early 1970s France, Jean (Jean Yanne) is a married filmmaker of forty who keeps a young lover, Catherine (Marlène Jobert), from a working-class family. Neither can stay away, and neither can stay quiet, so the affair moves through shouting fights and tentative reunions, then fights again. Maurice Pialat films the quarrels in long, unbroken stretches, with no cutaway to relieve the room.
