“TEN-SHUN! Shirley is a peacemaker and matchmaker in Rudyard Kipling's most famous story”
In 1897, a small girl called Priscilla Williams arrives at a British army outpost in northern India with her widowed mother, Joyce (June Lang). The post is run by her grandfather, Colonel Williams (C. Aubrey Smith), and Priscilla, Shirley Temple at her most direct, soon has Sgt. Donald MacDuff (Victor McLaglen) drilling her like a recruit. John Ford adapts Kipling with no big song or dance number, and builds the whole film around the child.
