Professor Norman Reed (Lon Chaney Jr.) teaches by reason and the scientific method, and he brings his new wife Paula (Anne Gwynne) home from the remote island where she was raised. Reginald Le Borg follows the couple into a college town where Norman's colleagues whisper about Paula's dancing and her rituals. Norman can no longer say whether he is protecting his wife or doubting her, and that doubt sits between them.
