“She doesn't want much. Just a whole new life.”

Dinky Bossetti (Winona Ryder) is a teenage orphan in the small Ohio town of Clyde, with few friends and a firm belief that the movie star Roxy Carmichael is her birth mother. When Roxy announces she's coming home to dedicate a city building, the whole town starts getting ready, including her old flame Denton Webb (Jeff Daniels), now married. Jim Abrahams directs, and for Dinky the visit is her one chance to be claimed by someone.
