Welcome Mr. Marshall!

Don Pablo (José Isbert), the mayor of Villar del Río, wants his sleepy Castilian town to get a share of the Marshall Plan money. The Americans are due to pass through, so the villagers hire a flamenco singer, Carmen Vargas (Lolita Sevilla), and dress the whole place up as Andalusia, because that is the Spain they believe the visitors expect. Luis García Berlanga films the preparations with a dry, patient eye, and the town waits in its borrowed costumes.
