Welcome to Dongmakgol

(2005)Directed by Bae Jong133 minComedy, Drama, War
“Story about a village where the miracle lives in.”

Chief Comrade Lee Su-hwa (Jung Jae-young) is a North Korean officer in 1950 whose unit stumbles into Dongmakgol, a mountain village where no one has heard of the war. Soldiers from the South and a downed American pilot, Smith (Steve Taschler), end up there too, weapons raised, facing villagers who only want everyone to sit down and eat. Bae Jong's film keeps the armies stuck in a place that has no use for them, while the fighting waits somewhere beyond the hills.
