We'll Live Till Monday

(1968)Directed by Stanislav Rostotsky106 minRomance, Drama

Ilya Melnikov (Vyacheslav Tikhonov), a history teacher at a Moscow school, has decided to quit after hearing rumors about a colleague who is in love with him. Then a student hands in an essay on happiness that splits his class into factions, and Stanislav Rostotsky puts Melnikov in the middle of the argument during what was meant to be his last week. The question under the quarrel is plain: what a person is supposed to want from life, and who gets to say.
